Telecom tech giant Ericsson and Mobifone, a Vietnamese mobile network operator have signed an Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on establishing a 5G Innovation Hub at MobiFone’s premises in Vietnam. The hub will support innovative 5G use cases in order to demonstrate the potential of 5G for consumers and enterprises based on advanced, state-of-the-art equipment, trained resources and interactive displays.

Meta announced on Tuesday October 1 that it plans to produce its next-generation virtual and augmented reality headsets (Quest 3S) in Vietnam. The investment will create more than 1,000 jobs.

Facebook is used by more than 80% of the population in Vietnam, where most independent media is banned. However Facebook has been criticised by human rights groups in recent years for blocking illegal content by order of the Vietnamese communist government.

During the visit to the United States, Vietnamese Head of State To Lam asked META to invest in Vietnam in the field of Artificial Intelligence. However, what presents the added value lies in the development codes, predictive evaluation methods for decision-making and data lakes. META took care to invest in Malaysia to be able to benefit from copyright protection and above all to escape the theft of vital data and the information control needs of the Vietnamese government. This means that the development of AI is largely taking place outside Vietnam.
